Profile
The Stockholm
Environment Institute (SEI) is a policy research institute specialising in
sustainable development and environment issues. SEI was established by the
Swedish government in 1989. SEI's mission is to support decision-making and
induce change towards sustainable development around the world by providing
integrative knowledge that bridges science and policy in the field of
environment and development.
SEI currently operates in the following

Environmental policy research at
SEI
SEI's participation in CANES will be undertaken by the Policy
& Institutions Programme. This programme studies decision-making processes
and how to develop institutional structures that enable policy-decisions at
various levels to move towards sustainable development. Research is carried out
within the theoretical framework of the social, planning, and political
sciences, and focus is on applications that tap existing theories and
associated methodologies and adapt them to real-world policy and institutional
issues.
Role in CANES
SEI coordinates Swedish
participation in CANES. Within the project, it has the main responsibility for
research on EU renewable energy policies, as well as research on how Swedish
industry, energy production and energy infrastructure are influenced by EU
state aid and climate policies.
