2. RIVER RUNOFF.

This description below is based on the original one from AARI (See Expl.doc). The source tables referred to are included in the Data_2.xls spreadsheet in the \INSROP_GIS\Sourcedata\AARI-SOF 1996\tables folder.

2.1. Characteristics of initial data.

As initial data, data on mean monthly water discharges for main downstream measuring sections of the Ob', Yenisey, Lena, Indigirka and Kolyma rivers were used. The sections are, respectively, near the Salekhard, Igarka, Kyusyur, Vorontsovo, Srednekolymsk (from 1977 - Kolymskoye) points. These data are contained in the materials of the State Water Cadastre for the river basins of the Kara, Laptev and East-Siberian Seas, Vol. I, No.11, 12, 16, 17. Mean monthly water discharges are calculated on the basis of mean daily values based on direct measurements at hydrometric sections using standard methods.

2.2. A brief description of the processing/analysis method.

The monthly runoff was calculated by multiplying the value of the mean monthly water discharge by the number of seconds in a month. The occurrence frequency of the ranges of the monthly runoff values for the hydrometric section was calculated by means of the standard technique. The selection of the number of ranges in each specific case was made taking into account the variability of the runoff amount.

2.3. A brief description of the data transferred.

The calculation results are transferred in the form of the ASCII files (tbl_5.txt, tbl_6.txt) containing tables 5 and 6.

Table 5 consists of the records including the following fields: No. of the river; name of the river; name of the observation point; latitude (degrees); longitude (degrees); the distance from the section to the mouth (km); watershed area in the section region (km2). Table 6 consists of the records including the following fields: No. of the river; month; the lower limit of the range(km3); the upper limit of the range (km3); the number of cases in the range; the occurrence frequency of the range (%).
