Creating or opening a Table

A table can be added to the project in two ways; From the Project window, or from the View window. From the Project window a table document is created by double-clicking the Table icon or by choosing the Project-Add Table or Project-Add INSROP Table menu choice. An existing table document is opened by double-clicking a table name in the list of table documents in the project. From the view, making the theme active and choosing the Open table button in the views button bar opens the attribute table of a theme.

A table document is only a viewer to the contents of a table file (dBase, INFO, or Tab-delimited text file). It is possible in ArcView to edit elements in a dBase table file and also to create a new table, but for all but minor edits a spreadsheet (e.g. MS Excel) is must better suited for table editing.
