Borderland Russians Published in Revised Version

Geir Hønneland: Borderland Russians: Identity, Narrative and International Relations(29.01.2013) Geir Hønneland's book on the identity of Russians on the Kola Peninsula – Borderland Russians from 2010 – is now being published in a revised version, with a new foreword by Iver B. Neumann (London School of Economics and Political Science).

In his book, FNI Research Director Geir Hønneland discusses some of the big questions in social science: What is identity? How is it narrated by subjects? What is the role of identity and narrative in the study of international relations? His point in case is the Russians of the Kola Peninsula, the most heavily militarized area of the world during the Cold War, now set to become Europe's next big oil playground.

The book has been received with high acclaim, with reviews such as: 'The book treats one of the hottest and coolest issues in International Relations, the question of identity, in a well-informed, earnest, lively, humorous and entertaining manner' (Sergei Medvedev), '(a) highly readable and engaging work' (CHOICE), and 'A genuine joy to read' (Arctic Review of Law and Politics).

For an academic book of its kind, it has also sold very well, being one of the best-selling titles in the Palgrave Studies in International Relations series. Several prints of the original version have already been sold out, and now a revised version is out.
