Home  About FNI  Research  Publications  Staff  News & events  Contact		FNI PROJECTS EU Enlargement – Challenges to the Effectiveness of Environmnetal Policy This project aims to increase our understanding of EU environmental policy in general and the consequences of enlargement for EU environmental policy in particular. The enlargement of the European Union from 15 to 25 and possibly 28 member-states represents an increase of 170 million people and 58% of the EU's land area. Such enlargement will necessarily involve a whole series of new problems and possibilities with regard to sustainable development. What consequences will enlargement have for the environmental policy of the EU and in Norway, heavily dependent upon developments within the EU? Through studies of various environmental policy fields, such as climate change, air pollution and GMOs, the FNI aims to contribute greater knowledge and awareness of EU environmental policy and the consequences of enlargement.
