Home  About FNI  Research  Publications  Staff  News & events  Contact		FNI PROJECTS Strategic Resources and Security in the High North – Challenges for Norway This PhD study will examine Norwegian security policy in the High North in connection with the global energy situation and the race for scarce and strategic (petroleum) resources. Which regional impacts will the global resource situation have for the High North? What will Norway's place and role be as a small state, but also as a significant energy power, amongst big powers in a (potential) geopolitical game for resources in the High North? There are still sound reasons for seeing these challenges from different security perspectives. A set of perspectives on security will be examined and discussed, ranging from the more classic and narrow understandings to broader and new definitions such as "securitization", "environmental security" and "human security".
