FNI PROJECTS
Joint Implementation in the CIS: Market, Projects and
Barriers
The Kyoto Protocol allows developed economies that
domestically fall short of their target to contribute to compliance through
cooperation with the Economies in Transition (EITs) through two routes. 'Joint
Implementation' (JI) allows the generation and transfer of emission credits
through investment in emission reduction projects. In addition, Parties can
transfer part of their total 'Assigned Amount Units' through international
emissions trading.
The research tasks of the project are:
to analyse the development of the institutional framework
for Joint Implementation approval and Kyoto compliance in Russia and other CIS
countries.
to assess the potential of JI through
an analysis of JI projects offered until now.
to evaluate the JI projects offered based on a set a
criteria.
to assess the quality of project hosts and
project providers.
to explore the barriers to
JI.
