Societal Security in Northern Waters

Is Norway (The Norwegian Coast Guard) prepared to meet emerging societal security challenges in Arctic waters, given the increased activity that can be expected as a result of climate change?

This is the overarching questions posed in this reserach project. In case deficiencies are found, the project also will look into how society can develop/optimize capacities to respond to a potential crisis in the region.

Furthermore, the project aims at answering the following research questions:
How do key actors (The Norwegian Coast Guard) in the Norwegian SAR (search and rescue) service respond and adapt to changes in external conditions, like increased navigation and other human activities in Arctic waters?
How do key actors (The Norwegian Coast Guard) in the Norwegian oil-spill preparedness/response system respond and adapt to increased shipping and human activity in Arctic waters?
