What is the blue economy potential in the Arctic? Specifically, what are the opportunities for increased cooperation between Alaska and Norway within fisheries, aquaculture, energy and maritime transportation?
Alaska and North Norway share similar characteristics, particularly regarding the regions’ economic dependence on maritime industries and their potential for blue economy development. However, no knowledge has been shared or even attained yet concerning the opportunities for both regions to mutually tackle the manifold challenges of regionally developing their blue economy. The three-year project AlaskaNor (2018-2021) aims to improve knowledge concerning the blue economy in Alaska and North Norway and in turn enhancing related knowledge among relevant stakeholders and amongst decision-makers.
At this event, we will present our four work package reports on opportunities for cooperation within fisheries/aquaculture, energy, maritime transportation and overall governance issues. We will further discuss blue economy cooperation between Alaska and North Norway with relevant stakeholders from both sides of the Arctic Ocean.
The event is organized by High North Center. More information on the project can be found here: www.alaskanor.com
