Are low-carbon futures decentralised? Visions and praxis in governing collective electric systems
- (4 September)
- (5 September)
Decentralised electric systems are central to shaping Europe’s low-carbon future. This workshop presents key insights from experts on the evolving dynamics of energy governance and infrastructure.
This workshop critically examines the role of electric systems in facilitating rapid decarbonisation. As energy generation in Europe becomes increasingly spatially distributed, this shift raises important questions about the decentralisation of operational control and infrastructural investments within electric systems.
The workshop will explore how national regulations and organisational structures shape these systems' futures, with a particular focus on the interplay between infrastructure, governance, and organisational dynamics.
Through discussions and contributions from leading experts, this event aims to produce an edited volume offering a comprehensive framework for understanding these evolving processes.
Workshop Programme Highlights:
Day 1: (Closed Session)
09:00 - 16:00 at the Fridtjof Nansen Institute
- Keynote 1: Nicolò Rossetto, research fellow at the Florence School of Regulation
- Keynote 2: Jenny Palm, professor in sustainable urban governance at Lund University
Day 2: (Open to the Public)
09:00 - 16:30 at the Fridtjof Nansen Institute
- Keynote 3: Michael Pollitt, Professor of Business Economics at the University of Cambridge
Professor Pollitt gives a keynote on the critical challenges and opportunities in creating decentralised, sustainable energy futures. His insights will set the stage for the day's discussions, highlighting innovative pathways for policy and practice in the energy sector.
- Open sessions exploring energy infrastructure planning in positive energy districts, advancements in smart meter infrastructure, and Italy's and Colombia's shifts towards decentralisation.
- Final discussions on the decentralised post-war electricity system in Ukraine and the disruptive potential of floating offshore wind technology.
- Closing: Wine reception at Polhøgda.
