‘Complex continuity’ in Norway spells difficult energy compromises post-election

After Jonas Gahr Støre’s Labor Party won Norway’s September 8 election, researcher Jørgen Wettestad of the Fridtjof Nansen Institute noted that the new coalition will face tough internal disagreements on energy and climate policy. 'We avoided a government led by the Progress Party with climate policy dismantling high on its agenda. But it is easy to point out differing energy and climate positions in the new and even more complex red-green coalition', Wettestad said in an email. He emphasized that the Socialist Left and the Green Party are pushing for more wind power and closer EU alignment, while the Red Party remains skeptical.
