Iver B. Neumann warns that even US threats to take Greenland undermine NATO’s core logic. He argues that if the alliance’s leading power openly challenges a fellow member’s territory, NATO loses its value base and credibility. In his view, 2026 could mark the start of concrete US force build-ups around Greenland, with severe consequences for European security.
