The Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), in partnership with the Royal Norwegian Embassy in London and the Fridtjof Nansen Institute, hosted a seminar on 2 September 2024 focused on great power competition and security in the Arctic. The event brought together experts to discuss the strategic challenges facing the region amidst rising geopolitical tensions.

This event examined how climate change and Russia’s war against Ukraine are impacting Arctic geopolitics, and how actors such as NATO, the US, Russia and China are refocusing their attention towards the region. It will also explore Norwegian and UK collective and individual priorities in the Arctic.

The panel was chaired by Professor Malcolm Chalmers, Deputy-Director General, RUSI, and featured a discussion between Norwegian State Secretary Anne Marie Aanerud and Lord Coaker.
