SecurEL Blog, 9 February 2026.

Electrification, new industries and more local power production are putting increasing pressure on the electricity grid. At the same time, security of supply must be maintained and Norway must meet its climate targets.

In this blog post, the authors present their work in SecurEL, where they examine how the role of the power grid is changing, and what kinds of regulatory frameworks and practices are needed in the ongoing energy transition. They analyse both existing regulation of distribution system operators and how company-level strategies and choices influence flexibility, investments and supply security.

The post also outlines the development of new modelling frameworks and future scenarios towards 2050. The aim is to better understand the interaction between the power grid and the broader energy system, and to provide knowledge that can support well-informed and politically feasible decisions.
