Conclusion: How We Should, And How We Should Not, Widen the Scope of Governmentality Studies

We sum up the book and criticize a tendency that is perhaps most pronounced in much scholarship in International Political Sociology (IPS), namely a tendency to focus on the ins and outs of a particular concept and its uses within the discipline, to the detriment of focusing on how that concept, and the tradition from which it grows may be brought into dialogue with other concepts and traditions so that we may produce better analyses of the world.
