International political economy, with special emphasis on regime theory applied to regional cooperation and joint management of natural resources and the environment. Geographic focus on Polar regions, especially the European part of the Arctic and the Antarctic. Current substantive foci include Arctic climate change and environmental protection; fisheries management in the Northeast Atlantic; the compliance system of the climate Kyoto Protocol; institutional interaction, including between environmental and trade regimes; and the role of science in environmental governance.
